Unlocking the Secrets of Longevity Through Your DNA
Have you watched the new CNN docuseries on CNN called Chasing Life? The host Sanjay Gupta travels worldwide to explore how cultural practices maintain healthy communities despite unfavorable conditions.
This reminded me of one of the first reasons I fell in love with alternative medicine. The reverence for simplicity, nature, and balance is sometimes all you need to stay healthy.
In my opinion, embracing holistic health practices can lead to a longer, healthier life. It's essential for all of us to focus on optimizing our current health status.
I often like to ask my patients to look back at their ancestral lineage to find their health and wellness equation.
Take some notes and research on the following:
Where do your ancestors come from?
What blood type/build/body type do you most take after from your lineage?
What foods were most accessible to the group (ancient herbs, grains, and vegetables may be included and good to be aware of)?
What physical activities did they engage in (walking, building, gathering, hunting, etc)?
What were some of their communal/spiritual/fellowshiping practices?
Was their life span dictated by a lack or excess of nutrients or environment?
How does your life compare to this today?
I’ve always been a huge proponent of taping into and mimicking the lifestyle of our ancient predecessors (where applicable and practical of course).
This way we can be guided back to optimal DNA expression.
In today’s world, we are inundated with so many man-made chemicals and toxins as well as a pace of life that’s un-sustaining.
Even those who “eat healthy” may not be consuming what’s best for their unique needs.
Experiment with integrating some key ancestral elements to your current regimen and see how it transforms your life and wellness.
